their product strategy is to provide a variety of "quality" shows that you want to watch (ex. bc it's trendy, popular, etc.), which hooks you into the subscription plan as new shows keep coming out
π₯
EL
Eunice Jia Yi Lim6:26 PM
Product strategy: I feel like users won't be as intimidated in subscribing monthly versus yearly
NS
Nikita Sharma6:26 PM
They might do that to ease the fear of commitment, also they churn out new movies /shows every month, so that keeps you subscribed just for another month (and thats never-ending)
βΌοΈ
MR
Monica Isabel Reyes6:26 PM
also able to bump up the monthly subscription cost
π₯
YS
Yuvrinder Sidhu6:26 PM
Product strategy - provides them more flexibility in cash flow generation?
KC
Katherine Carter6:26 PM
also because if it's monthly it feels like a user can opt out if they feel like they don't want to pay anymore-- but they won't.
βΌοΈ 2
BB
Ben Brentnall6:27 PM
Could make it easier to keep stats on user count, a yearly subscriber might not be watching month by month
π
LS
Lucy Sun6:27 PM
it might be easier for them to raise prices, especially if they are spending more to aqquire access to other films
π₯ 2
AK
Abbi Kim6:28 PM
it's easy to spend 15 dollars a month, but spending 180 all at once can make consumers nervous
π 2
MF
Marcus Fong6:28 PM
if the cost of churn of a month to month subscription model is really high, how does your team balance features that priortitze new user acquisition vs customer retention?

More flexible pricing! Monthly subscription allows for Netflix to readjust their prices to costs and flexibility to adjust prices to other associated risks in the market that providing an annual subscription wouldnβt be able to give. It provides an option to the company to adapt to real changes! Sort of a real option focused strategy.

I also wonder what it means that Netflix (I believe) was the first to introduce games into their platform (for instance, app games) with your subscription. I wonder why this is, as it seems to indicate that additional sources of user draw were needed.
